Webinar: Implementing BIM - a QS Perspective (Recording Option)

In February 2011 a magnitude 6.3 earthquake caused severe damage to Christchurch Cathedral, completely destroying the tower, and severely weakening the entire building. Early in 2019 the reinstatement commenced with the project team making extensive use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) to understand, and plan, various aspects of the project.

BIM allows for collaborative workflows, enabling quantity surveyors, architects, engineers, contractors and other construction experts to plan, design, and build a building or structure within a single 3D model.

This webinar will examine how BIM is being used to assist with the reinstatement of Christchurch Cathedral. Additionally, we will review tips and tricks on how BIM can be implemented by quantity surveyors.

About the speakers:

Julian Donald

Julian is a Civil Engineer and QS who has worked in a variety of roles for a number of UK main contractors on public sector and private sector projects including: schools, hospitals, prisons, manufacturing facilities and offices. Julian has been a Director at Rawlinsons for 3 years and has been lead QS on the Christchurch Cathedral Reinstatement Project since 2019

James Williamson

James is a Consultant in the Brisbane office of RIB Software, the makers of on-screen measuring and estimating software CostX. At RIB, James provides frontline support for Australia and New Zealand-based clients and plays an important part in developing the product for the Oceanic market.

James graduated from Kingston University with a degree in Quantity Surveying and has over 13 years of experience in the industry across the UK, New Zealand, and Australia. With his industry experience, he has a unique understanding of the challenges that users face in their day-to-day estimating, and how technology can help to resolve these challenges.
