AIQS and ACIF have partnered to deliver a webinar addressing mental health concerns in the Australian construction industry.
How can we address the growing mental health concerns in the building and construction industry?
Statistics show an alarming rate of suicide in the Australian construction industry, with male construction workers more likely to suicide than their counterparts in other industries. A combination of poor job security, high stress, and lack of communication amongst men are some of the reasons behind why men in this industry take their lives each year.
We have invited speakers in the industry to discuss the ways that businesses can better support their workers; the impact that reduced productivity has on construction projects; and how we can all make a difference to our industry’s mental health narrative.

| Chris Lockwood Chris is a senior leader with specific knowledge of mental health, safety and suicide prevention in the construction industry. Chris has general expertise in managing strategic growth, financial management, sustainable funding and partnership development. He maintains strong networks across government, unions, employer associations and business leaders. |
| Deb Cownley Over her 20-year career in the infrastructure industry Deb has obtained experience in both the client and construction side, gaining broad experience into what it takes to achieve excellence in major projects. In addition to being the CICT Project Manager, she is also the Group Manager John Holland Way, a business wide initiative to deliver common and simplified ways of working and a Co-Chair of John Holland’s Celebrate Women employee network. She has a passion for inclusive workplaces and leads the way in establishing processes and controls to ensure compliance and risk minimisation to facilitate project completion. |
