Emerging Quantity Surveyor's Role in the New Era - International Chapter - Region 1
AIQS, in collaboration with the Philippine Institute of Certified Quantity Surveyors (PICQS), are proud to bring you our first joint CPD event for 2023.
This half-day face-to-face event will examine the emerging role of the quantity surveyor throughout the project lifecycle. The event will touch on the the role of the quantity surveyor as contract administrators who work for developers, contractors and consultants.
As a result of the digital transformation of the construction industry, the role of the quantity surveyor is becoming increasingly valuable - and special attention will be given to the unique skills that quantity surveyors possess in relation to 5D BIM for pre and post-contract projects.
The event will conclude with a panel discussion among revered AIQS Members, who will discuss the importance of quantity surveyors in the areas of digital cost management and contract administration.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Dato SR Peter Tan FAIQS, CQS Dato SR Peter Tan trained at Victoria Public Works Department, Australia and graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Building (Quantity Surveying) Degree in 1978. Dato SR Peter Tan founded Perunding Kos T & K Sdn Bhd in 1997. His leadership and dedication in the field has led the Company to receive the 2019 Quantity Surveying Team of the Year Award from the Royal Institution of Charted Surveyors (RICS). He was elected as Chairman for MABC Malaysia Australia Business Council and has been recognised as a Fellow of The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) for over 31 years. He is a registered CQS with the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (Lembaga Juruukur Bahan Malaysia), registered CQS with AIQS, and a Member of The Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM), Jemaah Dato-Dato Negeri Perak and FIABCI Malaysia. | |
Clarence Quismundo MAIQS, CQS Clarence is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor (CQS), Professional Civil Engineer (CE), Certified Master Construction Contract Administrator (CMCCA), Certified Construction Cost Engineer (CCCE), and FIDIC Certified Contract Manager. He is a graduate of the Mapua Institute of Technology (BSCE, 1988) with more than 30 years of experience in Construction & Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Contract Administration, Construction Management, Cost Control, Claims & Disputes and Construction Law. His body of work included stints in all types of organisations, covering the entire gamut of the construction and engineering industry – as Contractor, Subcontractor, Consultant and Employer/Concessionaire including stints with the Philippine National Construction Corporation (PNCC), Makati Development Corporation (MDC), Shimizu Philippines, Ian Campbell & Associates, Sta. Clara International Corporation, MTD Philippines, Pertconsult International and Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation - where he was the Head of Contracts Administration for the South sector from 2015 to 2021. His many projects include both vertical and horizontal infrastructure. | |
Phillip Tan MAIQS Phillip Tan learnt his trade as a Quantity Surveyor in Melbourne, Australia, where he completed his Bachelor of Environments, majoring in Construction and his Masters of Construction Management, specializing in Cost Consultancy from the University of Melbourne. He then worked in Melbourne for several years before returning to Malaysia to work as a QS. Integrating his knowledge in BIM & technology, he works on continuously upgrading PKT’s systems to keep up-to-date with the latest construction technology, and in spreading awareness across his organisation about the implementation of BIM on projects. During his time, PKT has implemented BIM across all working levels, with all PKT staff fully conversant with BIM and its benefits towards projects. | |
Leong Choong Peng FAIQS, CQS Leong Choong Peng has 50 years of work experience as a quantity surveyor. He has worked on projects in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Bangladesh. He is the Advisor to Mentabuild Limited (previously known as Arcadis Thailand), a construction consultancy based in Thailand. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors UK (FRICS), a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (FAIQS), a Certified Quantity Surveyor (CQS-AIQS), a Member of the Singapore Institute of Surveyors & Valuers (MSISV), a Member of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (MRISM), a Registered Consultant Quantity Surveyor of the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (CQS-BQSM), International Cost Engineers Council Accredited (ICECA), an Associate of the Chartered Institution of Arbitrators UK (ACIArb), and was an Accredited Mediator of the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB Malaysia). He is currently a Councillor of AIQS International Chapter Region 1, and was a Director of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (2018 – 2022), a founding member of the Association of Quantity Surveyors Thailand (AQST) and served as representative of Thailand in the ASEAN Association of Quantity Surveyors (AQSA). He had previously served as Chairman for the RICS Thailand Association. | |
Peter Ng, FAIQS, CQS Peter is the Chairman and Founder of Beria Consultants Limited, which is an independent quantity surveying firm employing over 200 people with offices in Hong Kong, Chengdu, Macau, Shenzhen and Sydney. He has over 40 years of experience in the construction industry and is particularly proficient at handling costing, quantity surveying, project management and assessment of claims. He has extensive experience working with Contractors, Consultants and Public Transport Corporation. Recently, he has been interested in exploring the new technology applying to costing management & quantity surveying. He is also a CIC-Certified BIM Manager and has obtained the HKIS QS Award of Excellence in 2022. Additionally, he is also the Adjunct Professor of The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (Thei) and was the Past President of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors International Chapter Region 1. | |
Daniel Malacchini MAIQS, CQS Daniel started with WT in 1997, relocating to Singapore in 2007. He worked on a variety of projects including full QS services for Federation Square and Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort (Financiers’ Verifier). Daniel’s broad experience and ability to communicate commercial matters with a variety of clients and stakeholders is a key to delivering success across a variety of complex sectors, including his current key focus on Corporate Real Estate (primarily Financial Corporates and “Big-Tech” clients), Data Centre & Mission Critical facilities and Life Sciences across the SEA Region. | |
Darneil Perez MAIQS Darneil is a chartered surveyor with over 32 years of experience in residential, commercial, industrial, civil works and infra projects. He has extensive knowledge in cost and contract administration; dispute resolution experience. His areas of strength are project management, Sustainable Constructions, Green Building Certifications, MEPF systems, Claims and Arbitration. He has experience in delivering QS Consultancy, Business Advisory and Project Management services for clients.
