The Victorian Chapter is facilitating the first “Client Hour” to ask our clients how
we can partner and deliver better results. Join us to hear about our speakers current
pipeline of work along with their valuable opinions on how the service of a
quantity surveyor can improve in 2020 and beyond.
For a design thinker it has to be ‘us with them'”
– Tim Brown, CEO and President of IDEO
The speakers include:
Sarah Tozer - Sarah is a Property Professional currently working within the John Holland Building team. Sarah experience
spans both on the Contractor Side in delivery and Development and Client Side in more recent times which gives her a
unique view of Quantity Surveying in various construction related settings.
Ian Leong - Ian is currently the Executive Director for Redevelopment Planning and Infrastructure at the Royal Victorian Eye
and Ear Hospital. He has 40 years’ experience in the building industry and is currently also a non-Executive Board Director
and a senior lecturer for cost planning and construction.
Rod Anderson - A QS by qualification having attained a Bachelor of Construction Economics at RMIT in 1988, but has always
worked on what might be considered “the dark side” as an estimator for contractors over the past 31 years. Rod commenced
his career as an estimator at Hooper Constructions in 1989 before the hard times hit in the early 90’s when the property
market and stock market both collapsed. Thereafter, over the next 25 years, he spent most of his career with the majors
including Multiplex for 12 years, Baulderstone for 6 years and more recently Probuild for almost 5 years. Rod came across
to the privately owned Built business as the National Estimating Manager in 2017 and at the start of this year also took on
the role of Estimating & New Business Director. Rod sits on the Victorian Chapter Council for the AIQS recognising synergies
and opportunities between Quantity Surveying and Estimating.
The panel will be facilitated by Jane Northey. Jane is the AECOM ANZ Cost Management Practice Director. With over
20 years of experience gained in Australia, UK and USA, Jane is a skilled cost planner and estimator, delivering cost
consulting at various design phases. Jane’s approach to cost management and risk assessment requires constant
communication with all project stakeholders to ensure a complete understanding of the scope, operational impacts and
end user requirements. She has been engaged in projects valued under $1M to over $2B across a variety of industries
including transportation, healthcare, education, residential and the arts. Jane’s experience working for consultants,
constructors and operators has enabled her to identify and objectively report on costs and risks associated with the various
aspects of design, construction and delivery.
